Dear beautiful bride-to-be...
Let's face it: Figuring out how to plan a wedding is no cake-walk.
One moment you're saying "Yes!" and the next moment you're in over your head,
figuring how to plan a wedding, organizing bridesmaids' dresses, venues, caterers,
photographers, centerpieces, transportation arrangements, wedding favors.... arrgh!
You're a busy gal and with all this extra work you're stressed, you're overwhelmed,
and it looks like your budget is going to flutter out the window like a bridal veil
in the wind.
It almost happened to me when I was planning my wedding.
As an event planner, I thought I'd have it easier than most. I mean, how different
can it be? But even with my experience, I was still running around in a tizzy,
stressed beyond belief, with my poor fiancé bearing the brunt of it and freaking out
over our dwindling budget!
Like you, I was scouring the internet and the library for "real people" information,
but it was all written for brides with huge budgets, or it was just so vague and
fluffy that it didn't give me anything to work with.
I would buy magazines and flip to the "budget" section, only to see that even their
"budget" ideas were out of my league!
I was supposed to be planning my Big Day, but instead I was being made to feel like
a second-class citizen because I didn't have $30,000 to play with.
I was really beginning to think that a Las Vegas drive-thru wedding was my only
option...
On the way home from work I had one of those cartoon lightbulb moments and I
realized two things:
Firstly, the importance of that old saying: Keep it simple, stupid! (But of course,
I'm not stupid and neither are you. So I decided to make it "Keep it Simple but
Special"!)
Secondly. yes, a wedding is an age-old tradition fraught with expectation, rules and
etiquette: But this wedding was MY wedding, and I would darn-well do it the way I
wanted!
I decided I wasn't afraid to break a few "rules" if it helped keep things simple,
special, and on budget!
When I talked to my married friends, they all agreed that if they had to do it all
over again, that's what they'd do: Keep it simple, set their own priorities, and
forget what the "experts" say!
With these ideas in mind, I was able to "think outside the box" and come up with
ideas that gave me the fabulous day I wanted, while getting everything done on an
$8000 budget -- raw silk dress and full bar service included!
Since then I have met so many brides-to-be who are struggling to find a balance
between their fantasy wedding and the realities of budgets, families and booking
schedules. Not to mention all the advice we get for how to plan a wedding that's
totally perfect.
They lose themselves in the details, and forget the big picture. It is for you I
have written this guide. For you independent, strong, creative women who know what
you want, but are not quite sure how to get it.
You lovely ladies who know that tradition has it's place, but that you also have to
stand up and put the stamp of your own style on this day. For all of you with big
dreams, but modest budgets...
I'm going to teach you how to K.I.S.S!
Planning a wedding. You can always go for a wedding planner. But that's really
expensive. Maybe what you need are some wedding ideas, like how to do the wedding
on a budget. Wedding planning can be inexpensive if you think it through.
There is so much to think about. There is the actual wedding photography, wedding
hairstyles, wedding venues, and even wedding gifts. For these and other wedding ideas,
you really need to focus your attention. You can go with designer wedding dresses
or maybe look at antique shops for some classy ones. For wedding gift ideas, you
really need to figure out what you want in order to start your new life. There there
is the wedding florist, as flowers are an important and integral part of any wedding.
I guess what you really need is a wedding planning checklist.
